My dear friends in Okay Thursday and Texas Governor (I'm too lazy to link. Go search MySpace. You'll find them.) are playing with the interesting dude of Aqueduct. This will go down at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge. You should go. It will sell out. If it doesn't, I'd be surprised. I'll be there. Promise.

On to other news, I really don't have much. I've officially moved into my new apt. I love my roommates. Sadly, one of them is moving due to a job they got, but we're pretty close to closing the deal on a new dude. Life is good. We have what we call "lazy, yet productive weekends". Best ritual ever.

We're having a few people over to watch the season opener tomorrow. This should be fun. I'm more than excited for the Red Sox to be back. I'm obviously missing a certain team member, but you watch out when Oakland comes to town.

I'm also going to be part of a big "Girls' Night Out" on Tuesday. What could be such a big deal, you ask? Taylor. Hicks. The Soul Patrol is coming through and I can't wait.

I guess I really don't have much else to add. I guess maybe a tip?

Always keep your judgement open. It seemed a calm enough evening as I sat down and had some food. Terribly inappropriate banter between friends is always classy. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The show was great, but shortly after OkTh's set things became interesting. I was actually told that this story HAD to go in the blog. I think this was a first. It's almost inspiration to update the damn thing more. Sorry, continuing..

There was a girl there. She was named after some wine. "-encia" was about all I was able to recover. We all came to know and love her as "half full". It started off innocent with her telling me she liked my shirt. Then she came over to me, put her arm around me and took a picture of the two of us. Okay, whatever. It was funny.

I can't remember the exact series in which the following events happened but here's a rundown of where it went from bad to worse:

- She began doing some form of what I can only describe as "interpretive dance". The main arguement was whether or not she was a trained dancer. It was a cross between Tai Chi, booty popping and belly dancing...I think. It was honestly one of those things that you couldn't help but stare, but were afraid to look too long.

- She saw me on my way to the bathroom, pointed at me with a big grin and yelled "YOOOOUUU!" in a very Seinfeld way. On my way back, she followed me and began tickling me from behind. I had officially lost all idea of what the hell was going on. I also witnessed her taking a picture with her crotch on a pool table. This further proves my point.

- A friend and I thought it would be funny to go up and do jazz hands around her while she was "dancing". This turned out to be too embarassing and we failed this task miserably. The downfall was that this meant she thought we wanted to dance. The struggle begins.

Okay, so as I try to hide behind friends, she pulls me towards her and the area of which she had been dancing. I want nothing to do with this and literally start clawing at my friends in hopes that they will save me. My friends suck. Digging my feet in, I managed to escape.

At one point I think I'm in the clear and then she holds my hand, stands in front of me and says "look. you're really hot. i want you to dance with me. i want to do things to you on the dance floor"

I tried to be polite--I think I was. Either way, it was a classic moment to be quoted, laughed about and now told in a blog.

I don't even know how to put any of this advice into tip form, but just don't do what she did. Plain and simple.

xoxo
-s

Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits

There's an album I haven't listened to in about 6 years. I felt it appropriate though, so whatever. I'm older now and enjoy nostalgia even more so.

Happy Valentine's Day and Happy Happy Month!

I apologize for falling off the face of the earth. I'm sure Miranda's been busy with stuff and I have unfortunately not been exactly in greatest of health, but I thought if anyday was a good time to update, this was it.

Today I was met with the sad news that one of my favorite Red Sox players (on more of a personal level then professional) will be going to play for Oakland this year. Best of luck to Sunny D, I guess.

I have no idea how much I'll be updating in the next month or so.

1) I am still not really feeling much like my normal self (or maybe this is my normal self) and have taken to staying in and just hanging out with friends on a much more low key level. I've really started to stray from going out a lot and I like it. This weekend will be a complete contradiction to this statement, but every now and then it's worth it.

2) I am moving into an apartment, probably starting next weekend. There's lots of stuff to be done and things to be bought/sorted/packed...etc. I hate moving and will bitch and moan about it all I want. It's on the 3rd floor too, so the thought of that isn't helping much. I'm excited for this though.

I guess this was quite the half-assed update. I apologize. I'm trying to think of something that has crossed my mind in recent memory that would be a somewhat tied in topic of discussion, but I'm drawing a blank.

Oh. Now I know...

This may even be the first "tip" we've had in a while and it's brilliant.

Guys. When you're standing, it's cool to stand still. I saw this guy the other day while I was waiting for my train and he was shaking his leg and practically dry humping this girl. It was so strange, but made me laugh so uncontrollably because she was giggling and he had no idea how ridiculous he looked. Plain ol' stupid.

Also, since my little walk down the "meet someone on the train and date them for a bit" road, I enjoy watching other people in the same situation. People who look at each other, then casually make small talk, then fall into full on conversations and before you know it they're talking about how they'll find seats together. It's really quite disturbing. I'm glad I got out of that one.

I need sleep now. Until next time (whenever that turns out to be)

xoxo
s

Winter is Finally Here--Brrrr

Hey-

So I figured it was finally time to get my act together and put up a new post. I was lucky enough to see Sophie 3 times in the past week, both at the Kay show, Hot Stove and at my soiree.

I wish I had something happier to post about but I wanted to take a few minutes to rant about one of my few loves that always seems to lead to heartbreak: The Boston Celtics.

So far I've been to 6 games this season, of the 6, they have won 0. However, they are 12-22 the rest of the time, so I don't start pointing any fingers yet :) Last night marked the 8th straight loss for the Celts...the only team it seems with a longer losing record is Philly at 12 games...but they are the only ones behind us in the division, so that doesnt help soothe my spirits much.

Its not the losses that bother me per say.. I mean.. yes.. it sucks that they lose...but its HOW they lose. It always seems to be a heartbreaker recently. Take last night. They were down by over 20 points last night, and with 8 seconds left, they were within a basket. They were within 3 with a few minutes left, and I blinked and it was back to almost 7. They repeatedly get your hopes up, and then they crush them, seemingly without fail.

I know there are lots of things that could explain this and its a laundry list of things and we could start anywhere... injuries.. inexperience... etc etc etc. However, I have been very impressed with Al Jefferson and Delonte West lately. If I am not mistaken, in both Friday and last nights game, each had 25 points, and Big Al had a Double-Double in both. Gomes had a solid 20 points last night too. So think about how this could be playing out if Szczerbiak, Pierce and Allen were healthy too. Then, the Celtics would be all over the airwaves. I think a lot of this comes down to coaching. I have not been a fan of Doc at all this season. I respect him, and think he could be an effective coach in a different enviroment, but I still maintain that he is not the coach for the Celts right now. They need someone to get in and light their fire. And I dont see Doc being the one to do that.

I guess time will tell. The all star game is Feb 18th. The starting line ups are going to be announced Thursday. Things are looking pretty grim. But... things have to turn around at some point... and I'm hoping its sooner than later.

Thats all for now.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Would You Want To Know?

I was just editing some photos from this year's Hot Stove Cool Music event, and had the TV on in the background. I put on the movie If Only on ABC Family. The movie itself was horrible. It's that lame, cheesy, a million takes per line before they got it to look less scripted type of movie. I, of course, was in tears by the end of it. Why? Well, before I explain, I have a question for you (you being, me asking myself a question).

If you could find out how and when you were going to die, would you take that knowledge? What would you do with your last day if you knew it was coming? Would you tell anyone? Who would be the one person that you'd want to see, hug, kiss? Is there anyone you'd want to explain anything to that for whatever reason, you never told them?

And even more thought provoking:

If one of your friends told you that they found out that this was their last day alive, how would you react? What if it was someone you didn't know very well? Would you do anything different? Would you try to save them?

This movie made me wish that I had the courage to explain to people what they mean to me and what they've done to make me a better or worse person. I wish even more that doing things like that were more acceptable and less laughable. I wish it wasn't so uncomfortable for all involved to be more open and honest and heartfelt.

I wonder if there will ever be a time that conversations like that will be taken to heart and not made fun of.

One can only hope.

Oh, party at Miranda's tonight. Happy New Year!

I have had the pleasure of seeing Sophie twice this week. Once at TT the Bears where the lovely Kay Hanley was playing and the other at Hot Stove Cool Music this past Sunday.

So the other day on ebay I tried to buy an old video tape convertor. The kind where you put the Video 8 tapes into and then could play it in your VCR. I thought I had it all set, but of course once it arrived.. no such luck. I did however manage to dig up the old video camera and some tapes. And let me tell you....I was a special child. I still have a bunch of tapes to go, but tonight I found one from an old family vacation to Williamsburg in 1995. The shots are absolutely priceless. I have these oversized jean shorts on.. pulled up uber high..HUGE sunglasses (but not the hip kind, a purple shirt tied in the middle with a MASSIVE scrunchie, and a neon fanny pack. Oh.. and did I mention my hair was tied in pigtails with 2 scrunchies that had bows on them. If I knew how to take a still shot of the video I would post it, but alas I dont know how.

How was everyone's new years? Any good resolutions for 2007?

Todays tip is a little random..but heartfelt none the less:

Take the time to send someone a thank you card. Even if its for something mundane.. or just to let them know that you appreciate their friendship. Such a small gesture can seems silly, but means more then you know to the receipient.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Disturbed Covers Genesis

Did you know this? I didn't until this week. Good old "Land of Confusion" brought to the levels of odd vocal growlings that Disturbed is known for. I wonder if they'll still use puppets in their video for it? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, search "Land of Confusion" on YouTube).

With the world in a tizzy over that one, I've been in family overload from the holidays. I love them dearly, but after a while I just wanted to go to sleep. I've also been working this week in a fairly empty office and getting out early left and right. I wore jeans all week and was sick as a dog. See? I needed that sleep that I kept demanding. Stupid family.

I got a lot of nice stuff though and enjoyed seeing people open things I got them that they actually needed and appreciate them. I also went to hell on earth (south shore plaza) and bought Hilary Duff's With Love fragrance. I even got it boy approved before making such a purchase. In other words...Smell me.

I've come to the realization that sometimes it is easier to break up a friendship than start one. There are times when you can fade away and slowly come to a mutual understanding that a relationship (at any level) is over. Other times it's like pulling teeth. The worst is when it was quick and started with a bang. Those are generally the worst to begin with and the most awful endings. It's really the "crash and burn" theory (or fireworks). The better things are from the beginning, sometimes the more horrid the ending. Sometimes it's great and all, but how do you end something that never really had much time to become something? How do you do this when this person/these people are more or less unavoidable? A constantly terrible situation.

Well, if there's anything I hate more than Christmas, it's New Year's. I bought a really pretty dress that will probably end up hanging in my closet until next year or whenever I have a random chance to wear such a snazzy thing. I didn't buy the dress for New Year's, I bought it because it was only $20 and was originally $70, but still. I never do anything for this holiday and I have a feeling this year will be no different. It's usually just an excuse for a good cry. I will probably wake up at 6am though to wish my sister a "Happy New Year" in New Zealand. She gets to 2007 before me. Cheater.

I'm going back to listening to my friend WFNX (you can listen live from wherever and I suggest you do) and watching FX's mini marathon of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" (really one of the best shows ever. buy them on iTunes).

Happy New Year and Eat Your Veggies.
xo
s

Happy Almost XMas

Hey folks-

As some of you may or may not have noticed, I have been a bit MIA this month. I work in retail management, so tis the season of 50-60 hour work weeks. Hence, by the time I get home, I'm not up for doing much of anything. But now I'm officially done until the day after Christmas. Yay!!! I also was sick on top of things which made me want to do pretty much nothing in the spare time that I had. But.. enough with the excuses.

I'm a little dissapointed to say that I really havent been in the Christmas spirit this year. Ususally I"m the first one to break out the Christmas music, put up the lights, and hang the misteltoe, but it just seems different this year. I mean, sure, I still DID all those things, but I really dont feel like Christmas Eve is tomorrow. I guess it could be the weather. Maybe the fact that there really hasnt been any snow. Or that it has been almost 50 degrees this week. So in a last ditch effort, I am going on Christmas movie overload in the next day and a half.
I have The Santa Clause, The Santa Clause 2, Charlie Brown 1 and 2, Bad Santa and a Garfield Xmas all lined up. Maybe that will help. What are all of your favorite Christmas movies? What do you do to get in the spirit? I went home to my parents house today, and my aunt and uncle are in town which is always nice. And my Mom put up a HUGE tree and the decorations looks great.

So heres to hoping I find some Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas everyone. Or Happy _____________ (insert the holiday you celebrate here.)

XOXO.

-Miranda

Clanging Chimes of Doom

Sorry. I know I usually update something on the weekends and I failed. I had important stuff happening in my actual life that needed to be taken care of.

First things first, I love babies (and kids). My good friend and her husband just had their first little munchkin on Sunday and I went to visit last night. Not only did my friend look awesome after just having a baby, but she and her husband merged together their 'super cute' genes to create the most adorable baby girl ever. Events like these make me all warm and fuzzy.

Yul won Survivor. My boy Ozzy came is second. No one cared (or still cares) about Becky. I'm fine with that. If you google Ozzy's name, you can find a little treasure of nakedness. This is a fine consolation prize for us fans.

My hot ex-drug addict models won Amazing Race. I really get far too tense while watching this crap.

Chia Pet makes "Cat Grass" now?! I have no idea what the point of that is. I also don't see the point of cats in general, so that settles that. The Cat Grass is also conveniently sold in a Sylvester (of Tweety Bird chasing fame) planter. So cl-cl-cl-clever!

I obviously have nothing to say. This is honestly a post just to show a new date or new anything for that matter.

I've honestly had the most roller coaster month or so. I think my brain is on vacation for a while. I apologize for this. I don't think anyone still checks in here anyway, so I'm probably in the clear.

with midnight kisses under mistletoe,
sophieeeeee

Happy Belated Pearl Harbor Day

Can you believe this isn't a more notable holiday? I really should've only had a four day work week. America has no respect for its history. (Or I just wanted another paid day off)

Well, Christmas is a short 2 weeks from tomorrow (I do get that day off!). I have purchased one present. It was really only because my little sister is in New Zealand and in order to get her DVD set of "Felicity: Season Two" to her on time, it needed to be sent. I'm still not convinced it'll be there for her on Christmas, but close enough.

I've realized I don't want or need anything for Christmas. This is difficult for my family to swallow. I told them to give me money; my family hates giving money as a Christmas gift. I found a few books and am driving up to New Hampshire (cause it's tax free) to go shopping with my mom and dad (who are convinced they'll find something I need) on Saturday. This should be interesting, awful and possibly productive all at the same time.

There is nothing more I hate than going to a mall (it's definitely in the Top 5 things I hate list). I avoid shopping at all costs during the year, but without fail, I'll have to go at Christmastime. This is hell on earth in its purest form. I vowed to do all my shopping online this year, but obviously I'm a slacker and that's not going to happen (unless I pay out the wahzoo for shipping--what IS handling anyways?!). So, mall it is. I will be the cranky bitch rolling my eyes at your cell phone conversations and indecisiveness at the register. Say hi.

I'm really enjoying Diet Pepsi Jazz in the Strawberries and Creme flavor. It's terribly delicious. I've also been cooking again. I made Pumpkin Ale chicken with apple stuffing Friday for dinner and Cinnamon Egg Nog French Toast for Saturday's breakfast. I've also become reunited with Cap'n Crunch Berries. It seems they don't grate the roof of your mouth as much anymore. This is a great advancement in the technology of cereal making.

If you're not up to anything tonight, my tip for you is to head over to the Abbey Lounge in Somerville, MA and check out my dear pals in Okay Thursday. They will jangle your jingles and then some. I hope to see you there.

Remember to give back too. If there is someone you don't know too well, but need to get a gift for, donate money to a charity in their name and make up a little card informing them of this. It's a great way to spread some cheer during the holidays. :)

xo
s

Eeek! 3 weeks til XMas

Hi all-

So is anyone else freaking out at the fact that it's only 3 weeks until Christmas?
I was at work today and had sort of a "light bulb" moment about this...yikes. I still have lots of shopping to do. I feel like November absolutely FLEW by. It seems like just yesterday it was Halloween.

I am very excited to decorate my apartment this week. I am definately getting into the holiday mood. I had 2 holiday parties this past weekend, and another one coming up this weekend.

So for those of you who dont know, I have 2 roomates. Last week, one of my roomates and I were having a conversation and somehow we got on the topic of Christmas cards and if it would be weird if we sent one out. So... this past weekend, my 2 roomates and I went to the mall and took a picture with Santa. We had the pink Victoria's Secret hats and all. Now the cards are all ordered and we're just waiting for them to arrive. They are so frickin cute. I cant wait to start sending them out! I am a dork. I know...

Maybe I'll post some pictures of the decorations when I'm all done.

Tip for today: It was snowing when I woke up this morning. Make sure you have a snow brush in your car. Nothing is worse then having to clean your car off with mittens.

Thats all for now.

XOXO.
-Miranda

Do You Have A New Fan Too?

The new song (Phantom Limbs) by The Shins is amazing. Despite the rain and the 70 degree weather on Dec. 1, it was a very fun night and raised a lot of money for the charities listed on the site. Go check out the upcoming shows that Mike has put together. Buy that guy a drink when you see him too.

Also, (shameless plugging in the beginning is better than the sneak attack at the end) my dear friend from NH is playing the Bon Savants CD Release Show tonight at Great Scott. I would check this show out if I were you.

I was going to continue on my list of things to discuss, but am quite frankly too tired. I need to do laundry and stuff. Clean clothes are pretty cool.

I will say that I took my own advice yesterday and it paid off big time. Doing something brave and out of character can really work out in your favor, so I stand by that statement. I guess fear really is the enemy.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend kids.

Tip: Disregard the old lesson. Go ahead, talk to strangers.

xo
s

I Made A List

Sup party people?!

I made a list. This may seem silly, but I actually wrote down things that I wanted to discuss. I will not traumatize you with all of them at once. I'm slowly going to throw some things out there and you can respond accordingly.

1) A-Ha's "Take On Me". Does anyone NOT like this song (or the video for that matter)? If you don't like this song, I don't think I like you. I can find nothing bad about it at all. It picks me up when I'm feeling down (Thanks Billy Joel), it makes me want to dance and most of all it's an awesome car sing along. I totally respect people disliking it, but you need to have some concrete background as to WHY you hate it. Without that, you opinion is invalid.

2) Twisted Christmas. Has anyone seen the ads for Twisted Sister's "Twisted Christmas" album?! It's basically Dee Snyder "singing" songs like "O Come All Ye Faithful" over "We're Not Gonna Take It". I wish I were kidding, but to make it even more fascinating...they are taking this on tour! I don't understand. The world is ending soon (obviously).

3) Though seemingly paradoxal, I do believe there is in fact a connection between sleep and wearing a skirt the next day. Whether it is that in order for girls to look nice they need their beauty sleep and generally skirts help enhance said beauty, or that maybe (just MAYBE) leg hair grows slower during your sleep (This is a total lie I'm sure). Either way, I've found that it is beneficial and possibly critical to get a good night's sleep prior to wearing a skirt.

4) I love my friends. Seriously. They are do-gooders. "Sophie. What the hell are you talking about?" Let me fill you in.

My dear buddy Mike has put together some seriously crazy awesome shows. They are all being played in order to raise money for charities. This string of christmas lights for your eyes and ears (and social pleasure) is known as Sleep Tight Xmas Night. You can click that link, check out who's playing, choose which one(s) you're going to attend and then even go to Ticketmaster and order a ticket (or pick one up at the venue where available). It really is an amazing thing that he put together and all the bands participating are seriously awesome. PLEASE check it out and try to show your face at them. It's that time of year to give back and this way while you're giving back, you're receiving the gift of a fun night out. It's win/win.

I really have nothing substantial to add to this blog ever. I'm much better with the crap that no one really cares about. Like mock turtlenecks (which I will discuss in further detail another time. It's on the list).

Have a wonderful rest of the week. Go see the Sleep Tight Xmas Night show on Friday at Bill's Bar. Read a book. Do something out of character. Do something memorable.

Just do something.
xoxo
soph

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mmmmm...Pumpkin Ale. Awesome.

This is post is a bit of a milestone for "Take It From Us"; this is our 50th post.

I thought I'd take the time to thank everyone that has left us comments, told us stories, asked us questions and/or told us this is stupid. We enjoy posting from time to time and hope to continue doing so. Maybe people will actually read this someday.

Hopefully you all had a great time with whoever you spent this holiday with. As always, my family made the annual "Death List" (who will die by this time next year) and our traditional "let's talk about everyone now that they're gone" wrap up. My family is brutal.

For whatever reason, "Growing Pains" is on. This reminds me of a story...

I was waiting for my train one morning this week and flipped on my iPod to hear "Show me that smile again..". Those are sweet sweet words set to melody pumping into my ears on a chilly November morning and it forced the biggest grin on my face to appear. I can't even begin to tell you. It also made me giggle a bit and look a little insane (I'm sure). So many people try to stand there and look "too cool" with their headphones in, meanwhile, I'm standing there jamming out to TV theme songs. To people I know, this is not surprising. I find it funny to think that I'm the only one who realizes how hysterical it is when these songs come up on my shuffle.

I have a question (for anyone who actually reads this...you...and...you?)

Is there a way to spark up a conversation with someone while waiting for the train that isn't superficial and lame? I can't think of one. Help me out. Maybe I'll use the advice...maybe I won't (bet on the latter).

Tip: Make sure your leftovers are heated thoroughly before stepping away from the microwave. It's a bitch trying to get the chance again (at least in my family) after you sit down (if your seat hasn't been stolen) and realize that your mashed potaters are only surface hot and center cold.

Tip #2: Don't mind me during the next few months. I hate this time of year. It's like one big ball of "This sucks/I'm going to cry" around every corner.

xoxo
s

Oh What A Night..

Hey folks- I had a bit of an entertaining weekend, so I thought I'd share the story of my Friday night with you.

I had to work until after 10:00 on Friday, and I was sort of tired when I left work, but I called my roomate. We had a debate about whether or not to go out or not...we both seemed to feel like we could go out for A drink...or be content staying home watching a movie. So, we ultimately decided to go out to our favorite bar in Fanuiel for A drink..

So we go to this bar all the time, the bartenders know us there, and I like it, cuz it has a bar area to chill, but a low key DJ on the weekends if you feel like dancing. So we go and each get a rum and coke, and some free shots follow. We get our 1 Magners a piece and are just relaxing at the bar. Finally around 130 when more shots were flowing, I really couldnt take another one. So, my roomate took my shot for me, and I took her car keys. The bartender kept trying to see if I wanted another Magners, but I told him I had to drive home, so I would pass. We start chatting and turns out he lives very close to us, so we offer him a ride home. Jokingly he goes, "Only if you want to stay an hour and a half past close.." Well.. next thing you know.. the bar is closed and we are still there. 3:00... we are still there.... 4:00... we are still there.... 5:00.. we are still there. We finally left around 5:15. And we kept our word and gave the bartender a ride home. We got in around 530, at which point I proceeded to make eggs sunny side up and we watched The Price Is Right on Tivo.. I think we passed out around 6 AM.

Oh what a night. My roomate is the best. She got up and was at work by 830 AM the next day. I dont know how she does it. I slept until after noon that day.

Tip of the Day: Good friends make all the difference.Make sure you let your friends know how much you love and adore them :)

After a long day at work, its time for me to curl up with a movie.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Borat was funny (pause) NOT!

It's true. I recently viewed the hypetastic cinematic event that is Borat. Though I went ahead and quoted it (even though they were just quoting Wayne's World), the movie was...not that funny. I could see how it could be funny to people and I didn't think it was UNfunny, but I had only seen one ad for it and people I know (some of who I actually trust the opinions of) seemed to think it was the best thing since string cheese. I may try to watch this again when it's out on DVD, but I think it's getting something between a thumbs up and a thumbs down.

Listen to my friend if you read this before 6pm on Saturday, November 18.

And now for something mildly relevant to the blog...

I was listening to a woman in my office (she's 27) speaking about her "one true love" and how he's marrying another woman. She was discussing how he still wants to be friends and wants to get together with her some time soon to celebrate her birthday. She said that's a sign that he still loves her. I think this is bogus. Though it could be true that he is HER "one true love", she may not be his and he could actually believe that because they were together for so long and have known each other for quite a while that they are actually friends. A part of me really wanted to speak up, but I didn't. I REALLY wanted to speak up when she spoke about how she really hopes that she can convince him that his wedding will not work out due to the fact that she and him and soul mates. Now, to me, a soul mate does NOT have to be the love of your life. Call me crazy, but the way you relate and "click" with someone does not mean that you will be romantically together. Sometimes, that would be the least progressive thing and something that could completely ruin your relationship (whatever it is).

This just further proves my point that chicks are nuts and I want nothing to do with them (well, most of them).

Tip: Since Thanksgiving is coming up, my only tip is to eat lots of food and yummy yummies. Enjoy and don't you dare try to tell me that you're on a diet. Seriously, bite me.

xoxo
s

How Would You Remember?

I recently (as in, today) got back in touch with an old friend through MySpace (oh, myspace). I have many memories of us hanging out and our families used to go on vacations together. It was awful, but we always stuck together and made the best of it. Sometimes we'd even have fun.

He replied to my "hey, what have you been up to the last 7 years?" message with a memory of me. I don't really remember this happening, but it sounds like the kind of thing that easily would have happened between the two of us. We were a little off.

"Probably the biggest memory I have of you is when you put me in the bathroom closet while you were going to the bathroom, and then you're mom coming in and opening the closet with the weirdest look on her face, haha."

Is this how I want to be remembered? I don't know. It's definitely interesting and different. I'll take it. I mean, I didn't just go shoving any teenage boys in closets while I did my business. Not that I have a choice, but I guess being remembered in that way will have to do.

Isn't it funny how sometimes someone can remember you for something you don't even recall happening and isn't even a blip in your memory radar? I found this exchange just pricelessly hysterical.

I've been on a roll today when it comes to finding old friends on MySpace.

While you're at it... Add us why don't ya

And really... you should listen to my friend if you read this before 8pm on Sunday, November 12. You have 2hrs. You'll be okay. He may even tell you that you never have to go to the gas station again. Seriously.

"Hey Sophie, are you going to just plug shit today?"

Why yes. Yes I am.

WFNX is having a little contest in which you can win tickets to the Boston Phoenix's 40th Anniversary Party on Thurday, November 16th. OkGo are playing (they danced in their backyard and then took treadmills to a whole new level. they used to just tell you not to ask them how they've been, tell you you're so damn hot and then they would tell you to get over it--too many references? sorry), and guess who's opening? Did you guess Scamper? You're right. You should join FNX's "Friends With Benefits" mailing list and see if you can score a ticket. This is something you won't want to miss.

Also, my dad (of all people) called me today to inform me that he was phoning a friend. I thought it was time to put him in a home or something, when really he was playing an online version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire". You can find rip off versions of your favorite game show here. My favorite name change is "Booyah!" for "Press Your Luck". Get sucked into it. Thanks, dad!

In case I forget, my little cousin turns 17 on Thursday and I hope she has a great birthday. 17. Those were the days.

xoxo
s

9 Months

Hey there all. Yes I was busy last week. Give me a break.

So as some of you know I had a long term boyfriend of 2 1/2 years and we broke up last January. It was for the better, and there was a proposal in the works had things not ended then. So.. fine. It was tough at first as most break ups are, but I moved on with my life and have been very good about it. Until this week.

I dont know why, but I have gotten sort of sentimental about things. Dont get me wrong, I am not wishing we were together. At all. My ex and I have not stayed friends because he had a really hard time when I started dating other people. I think I had always sort of imagined in the back of my head that when he was ready and dating other people as well, we would someday be friends. So last night, I said that to my roomate (who works with him) and she was like "You guys will never be friends. Ever." And it totally got to me. I dont know why. My roomate was not trying to be mean. She was just giving me her honest opinion. Maybe its a reality I needed to face, but I guess its just harder than I thought it would be. That doesnt make it bad, just unexpected I guess.

Tip of the day: Someone once told me it takes at least a full year to get over a relationship. They said you have to go through all the holidays and experience everything without that person to move on.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Sometimes People Are Busy

Sorry for the week of nothing. I started my new job and Miranda was...well, she was busy too I guess. I don't know exactly what she's been up to, but I'm sure it included work as well.

I will soon be posting a YouTube link to my dear friends of Harris performing as The Police from Halloween night. It was amazing and I really think that everyone should click on the link and love them the same way I do.

For my first weekend after the first week of commuting/working a real job again, I decided to just take it easy. Apparently the powers that be had other plans.

My day of doing laundry and maybe taking a bubble bath quickly became shopping for a dress, dinner with an old friend, going to see Scamper, meeting up with some friends to go to a cocktail party (hence the dress) and ending the evening at a Halloween party (hosted in the apartment of a Take It From Us reader, who I got to meet briefly). It certainly was a far cry from what I had planned, but I rolled with it. It certainly was not as fun as it was hoped to have been. I think it's safe to say that the party lifestyle is no longer my thing (as it was really only selectively as such before anyway, it's really even more so now). The more enjoyable moments were spent getting down to the last 20 pages or so of a book I had been reading and just people watching/joking around with friends at the absurdity of our surroundings. I guess it just happens at some point.

It was a fun though. I enjoyed catching up with people whose company I forget I enjoy so much. I was tired though (and wearing a red velvet dress with heels) and ready to go home. I swung by a third party at Miranda's neighbors, but quickly left. I had had my fill and that was that.

A special shout out goes to my superawesome friend who kept me awake on the ride home.

As suspected, my entries are probably not going to be so interesting.

Tip: Relationships in the workplace are fine by me. I've seen living proof that they can work out very well. Make sure you give it time though. I'm just sayin'. I mean, if someone JUST started working at an office and maybe you're a courier for the offices (because of their 2 locations) and on the 5th day of said girl working there, you ask for her number in addition to her signing for the package...you will make her feel awkward and silly. If she's said nothing more than "Hi", "Bye" and "Have a good day" to you, it's not worth making it weird.

xoxo
s

I Ride the Wave And See What I've Become

Tonight I saw Ryan Star at Axis in Boston. I have to say, it was the most interesting crowd I've ever seen at a show.

Besides the crowd, he was probably the greatest performer I've ever seen. Just him and a keyboard and then just him and a guitar. Unbelievable.

I think all the talk of leaving my youth behind forced me to feel like a giddy 11yr old tonight. I will have a perma-grin for weeks. Maybe I'll even post a picture, just to have an excuse to flip out about him more.

I would also like to add that he is the funniest, kindest, best looking person I've ever seen close up. I could (and have been all night) gush forever. I've never met anyone so personable like he was. I hope that he comes back to Boston soon. Heck, I'd even consider making a night of it in NYC if he were playing there sometime. I love him though and believe it or not, he just bumped out John Mayer for the "perfect man" slot. I know this is a difficult pill to swallow, but you will be okay and you will understand at a later date.

A tip? Spelling a girl's name correctly on the first try is terribly underrated. Do your research and make her feel special.

xoxo
s

That's Not What Bill's Bar Looks Like on the Inside!

Last night I went to see the super jangle-poppy goodness of Okay Thursday (see to your left for a link) at FNX's New England Product night at Bill's Bar. Other bands played, but the only notable one to mention was The Channels. I hear the latter doesn't play many shows in the area and apparently (if last night was any indication) when they do they just tear the roof off. Amazing.

As posted in my previous post, I can feel my youth slipping away from me. It's sad. I've been in a weird mood because of it. Days that were filled up with going out and spontaneous happenings are now being replaced by baby showers and train schedules. I'm excited about the baby shower, but the train schedules...no.

Do you ever get to that point in your life when you realize you either need to take the step forward or just sit and wait for someone to just pick you up and carry you? I feel as if my foot is in the air, trying to take the step, but really my eyes are wandering in hopes that someone will stop me and say tell me it's better to wait.

I guess this means that I will have nothing to contribute soon. ha (not that I had much to begin with) My boring life will be no entertainment for you. I guess "I am looking for a dare to be great situation". I'll let you know when I find it. Maybe this is it.

Tip? Apparently only one person in this world (that i've found at least) finds the Halloween costume of "rape victim" amusing. I guess some people find it offensive or inappropriate. When putting together a costume for this year's festivities, don't steal my idea of going out as a "rape victim".

Oh, and don't blow away. Jeesh.

xoxo
soph

The Best Advice I've gotten in a while

So I was talking to a friend today and he spelled things out for me pretty honestly. Sometimes I think honesty is under rated. So I thought I would share.

Tip for today:

just remember that men like to hunt...we want to know your interested and we want to know we can get what we want from you...but if it becomes too easy after that we lose interest..so make sure he knows your into him and then back off...he will keep pursuing you

its not just space...if he thinks he has you and there isnt the possibility that anyone else has your eye..then he is going to relax and give up the chase....you should always have the chase..its what makes passion

So.....heres to passion.

Have a good night all.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Listen to the morning music, cursing the alarm you set

I'm officially a commuter. I will be taking a train into the "big city" from "the burbs" (though there is no tom hanks or corey feldman) to work every weekday.

This is exciting, but it means that my life outside of work will be precious time and not time to be wasted.

I just bought a lot of clothes and even new shoes for the new daily grind I'm facing. I bought heels. HEELS! People my height shouldn't wear heels. What was I thinking?!

I hate shopping for anything that isn't found in a grocery store and even that gets old sometimes. Clothes shopping eats away at my soul until there is nothing left and then shoe shopping comes in and fills the empty void with awfulness. I would maybe rather listen to Lou Bega's "Mambo #5" a few dozen times instead of having to shop...and that song sucks.

I'm looking forward to doing something with myself and hope to have as much of a social life as one can have. But I heard this ad for this contest going on this weekend. Its called The Ugly Betty contest. They were suggesting that people email in pictures of their own "Ugly Bettys" and the finalists are competing this weekend at some local bar (I cant remember where)for some big prize.

Now call me crazy...but I think I would cry if someone nominated me for this. And I too am going to respond to it personally.

Is marraige my ultimate goal? I dont know that I would put it that way, but yes.. I would like to get married someday. BUT only if its to someone I absolutely in love with and who makes me happy. I am definately not one of those girls who will freak out at say, 29, and get married just to say I am married. In fact, my own mother didnt get married until she was 39. Something to be said for waiting for the right person to come along. Shes been happily married for 20 something years now.

I also find this question particularly intriguing because I could be married at this point. I had a boyfriend of 2 1/2 years, and I ultimately broke it off. However, he had picked out a ring and planned to propose to me at graudation. It would have been very easy to fall into that, to get engaged at 21, married at 22. However, I knew that as much as we were good together that the time, he was not someone I could spend the rest of the life with. Which is a scary thought in itself. And it was the right choice.

I think a lot of people get caught up in the hype of saying they are married, saying they are engaged, throwing a big wedding. Look at how high the divorce rate is. Society definately doesnt help.

Anyway. Thats enough of my rant on this topic. Good question though.

Tip of the day: Come up with questions. It makes the blog a lot more interesting.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Will You Marry Me...?

What? You think I'm engaged?! No. Married? Maybe, depends on who you ask.

In all seriousness (or not), I went to see the movie "The Science of Sleep" last night. I must say, this movie was amazing. Visually, just strange and enchanting. If you don't mind the switching between French w/subtitles and English, it's a really funny script with a great little love story thrown in somewhere as well. I also have a new found respect for my mind. I also have a new found appreciation for the mornings I wake up with some sort of fond rememberance of what was going on in my head during the time that I was sleeping. Incredible movie. Go see it. I will tell you to see it in Dedham, MA (Community Theater, not the big corporate one). I will tell you this only because they serve beer at this theater. It's amazing. Every movie theater should do this.

Because I'm just going to turn my entries into little blurbs of things I think are awesome and you should check out (since my life is not interesting enough to keep up with this thing otherwise), I'm just going to dive right in.

Little Einsteins and The Doodlebops = Reasons to get up early and watch the Disney Channel. These shows are great and have amazing songs in them. I swear to you, 8am has never been more worth it. But Sophie, you ask, aren't these shows geared towards toddlers? Yes. This makes them even more awesome.

Okay, I'm not going to lie. I'm tired and don't feel like adding anything else to this.

Tip? Go see "The Science of Sleep" and let me know what you thought.

Have a good weekend, kids. A kick while I'm a bit down.

Okay, I'm lying. Things have been really alright for the most part. Today was simply a bump in the road.

After taking my car over to the place that my uncle has been going to for years to get an alignment done, I pick it up and hear "klunk klunk klunk" while braking. This was not there before. I brought it back and magically my rotors (first he said it was the brakes, then the rotors) are shot (!?!?!?)

I'm not a stupid girl, so I called my old mechanic (who used to do so much free work for me when I lived here) and he was totally booked, but told me to bring it to a buddy of his. He said that the tire place probably bent the tie rod (which I just had replaced about a year ago) while putting the tires back on.

Thanks guys! Just what a girl needs when she has stuff to do and has no job. :)

Luckily they are going to get going on it first thing in the AM, so my car should be back to me by the afternoon.

I hate cars. They are stupid. I think I hate tire people more.

Something I don't hate? This Song!!!
It's a catchy little ditty and I hope that you enjoy it. If you want it and the download time has expired, email us @ takeitfromus@gmail.com or IM us on AIM: takeitfromus

I'll hook you up.

My only tip is to listen to this song. It's gotten me through the last few months and I had quite frankly forgotten about it until this summer. So, thanks iTunes shuffle!

Enjoy your mid-week. She gave me a name of someone and asked if we had any classes with him. I told her that we did and how if she remembered, I had actually gone out on a psuedo date with him (he thought it was a date, I did not). She then seemed even more amused and afraid.

She sent me a link to a newspaper article. It had this kid's mugshot on the right; he looked terrible. I then read the headline. I was shocked. I read the article to be sure what had happened.

He had been arrested for having sex with a 15 year old girl and supplying her with pot and vodka.

This really creeped me out. How is one supposed to react to this? I'm just glad that we didn't go out again (as he wanted to).

Don't get me wrong, the kid took a semester off and came back totally screwed up, but still, that is a huge leap from the kid I met and hung out with once.

Today's tip:

Don't sleep with minors.

xoxo
sophie

We Haven't Seen You in a Few...How've You Been?

So the forces have been reunited and Miranda and I are posting this together in her new apt. Yay us!

We decided to have a more mellow evening than some of our past posts have played out; we went to dinner at the Sunset Grill & Tap.

Before we even start, we left this blog's web address on our comment card for our superstar waiter, Doug. We hope that you've decided to visit this little piece of the world (wide web) and that you know that you will always have a place in our hearts.

We had to deal with a little confusion on whether or not we were supposed to be seated at table 5 or not. Luckily, our final destination was not table 5, as we may not have been showered with the love of Doug. Seriously, words cannot describe his kindness and endless entertainment.

I was happy because I finally found Sam Adams Cherry Wheat again and Miranda was happy about ordering the Sour Cream French Fries for an appetizer. Things seemed to be going along swimmingly.

Miranda decided on the BBQ Pulled Pork Quesadillas and I got what is called "Besto Pesto", which was just a fancy way of saying "chicken sandwich with pesto and curly fries". Both meals were awesome. Had they not been so filling, I would've sprung for the Caramel Flan I spotted on the dessert menu, but we were far too stuffed.

All in all the evening was a blast and though we tried to get a picture of our beloved waiter, Doug, we failed. We will surely regret this for the rest of our lives. I tried to make up for the posed shot by arguing with Miranda that it may be just as awesome to get a candid shot with my camera phone; Miranda set the record straight that that was just creepy.

(We're sorry, Doug. That just doesn't do your awesomeness justice)

Thank you Sunset, for making our few hours out on the town awesome.

Tip time! (it's like tool time, but we don't work for tim and al)

If you have a crush on someone, don't try to touch their feet. You'll lose any chance you may have never had in the first place, forever....

Double tip:

Don't pick your nose while sitting in your car at a red light. We WILL see you digging for gold in the dark tunnels of your nostrils. It's gross (but mildly entertaining).

xoxo
Sophie & Miranda

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

I don't know if any of you watch this show, but you should. It's on FX. It'll be going into it's third season soon, and they show reruns a lot. You can download a free episode of it on Burger King's MySpace. I highly suggest you do so. The episode that is/was available was "The Gang Gets Racist". It's hysterical.

I would also like to point out that John Mayer Loves the Doodlebops! I find this amazing and awesome. This further proves my point in him being a perfect man.

Miranda and I went out to see Our Super Hot Sexy Gentlemen Friends at TT's last week, so we took a new picture. It was pouring out, so excuse the fact that we're all wet.

(That is my new favorite jacket/sweatshirt thing. I love it a lot. Excuse me if I wear it forever.)

I sadly have no exciting news to report in the world of dating. I've moved three times in less than a month, am currently looking for a job, have spent more time with people 3 and under than adults and have watched far too much TV.

I enjoyed the season premiere of The Office and How I Met Your Mother. I was disappointed by the new show, The Class. It is by the same people who did Friends and Mad About You (one of my favorite shows ever), so I had high hopes. I really did get myself hooked on the new shows Smith and Kidnapped last night though. Serious reasons to stay in a little longer before going out on a Saturday night.

The Amazing Race is back and it has a chick with one leg. This is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Hate me all you want, but she's really obnoxious and deserves to be made fun of. There are also cute model boys who are recovering drug addicts (awesome.), barbie dolls, couples yelling at each other, a father/daughter team in which the daughter is gay and the father is very vocal about his disappointment in this fact and "the bumpkins", who have a few teeth between them, but are too sweet to be on this show. It's a great watch.

Moving on to Survivor: Cook Islands. This got a lot of press over the fact that the teams are divided by race. Well, that is nothing compared to what happened during the tribal counsel this week. I think that this video sums it all up well.

I guess that means I have a tip:

When someone says they feel bad for you and uses the word "WE" instead of "I", there is not a real love connection going on. Love at first sight could be possible, who am I to bash it, but there is a clear line as to what love is and what love is most definitely not. If you're confused, watch the above video again. That is not love. So when dealing with a new interest, be sure the feelings are truly mutual before announcing your true love to the world.

Billy, that means you.

PS: He'll be on Letterman on Monday (9/25/06). I'm sure this will be brought up. It could be awesome.

xoxo
sophie

Hey there everyone.

As we've gotten back in to fall, we have been a little lax in our posts, but have no fear, we're still here. I'm actually on my way out to meet Sophie to see our friends Scamper at their first show in a while at TT the Bears. Most of you already know them, but check them out if you dont. http://www.scamper.net

Have a good night and I'll post some pics of tonight when I get back.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Tip of the Day: Don't burn your bridges. I went to school with a kid who had a crush on me. He was very odd. We hung out, but he basically knew I wasnt interested in dating him. Then I was out the other night and got a text message from a kid who said he knew my friend and asking me to meet him at a bar. I was really pissed that this guy had been giving my number out. So I called my friend and asked him about it. Of course, he denied it. So I let it go, figured I wouldnt make an issue of it. I just would civially stop hanging out with him, take the high road. Except he made a huge deal of it and wanted the the number of the kid who sent me the message. Since he was being mean, I obviously was not going to give it to him. Then he left be this really insulting message and we had a conversation that went like this:

ME:(9:20:33 PM): when did you become such a jerk?
HIM:(9:20:42 PM): i talk to you like every 2 months
HIM (9:20:50 PM): get with the program, we are barely friends lol
ME: 9:20:57 PM): i dont have time to have this argument right now
HIM (9:21:02 PM): i want no argument
ME (9:21:05 PM): when i have a few spare minutes i will find it and let you know
HIM(9:21:07 PM): i want the number
HIM(9:21:20 PM): nah u know what don't even bother then
HIM(9:21:28 PM): that means we would have to speak again
HIM(9:21:50 PM): have a good time wherever you are goin
ME (9:22:49 PM): i dont know when you did a complete 180, guess i missed that-I thought we were friends
ME(9:22:51 PM): good night
HIM (9:22:59 PM): haha i haven't
HIM(9:23:06 PM): i'm the same kid
HIM(9:23:15 PM): i just couldn't care less about people i talk to once a season
HIM (9:23:19 PM): what's the difference you know?
HIM (9:24:28 PM): u think i was different when we talked about 2 months ago?
HIM (9:24:31 PM): that's about all u have to go on

So... now I obviously think he's a real jerk and anything that could have been repaired in our friendship will never be. Don't burn your bridges. Its a small world, you never know when people come and go in your life.

Autumn Goodbye

Sorry for the fact that we've been slacking. Life has been busy and absurd.

I would like to take a moment to announce that after the ridiculous weekend that I had in which I returned to my new place to find my roommate bought a cat without telling anyone, and I'm petrified beyond all belief of the little bastards, the battle began. I told her that it was not in the agreement I signed and that she never mentioned getting a cat. She decided that the cat was more important than having someone help with the rent every month. Now it's getting legal and I'm probably going to have to sue to get most of my money back. On top of that, I had to move back to my parents' place and even more important...

I'm moving back to MA. (hopefully by the end of Sept)

I've been super stressed with the whole chaos of the last few days that I've been having trouble breathing and chest pains, so I apologize that I have nothing new or exciting to report of any relevance.

I will say...

-I'm really happy that Mike "Boogie" Malin won Big Brother: All Stars. Erika was a ho. Chill Town forever!

-I'm happy that Lukas won the lead spot for Supernova (or whatever they'll be called due to the whole lawsuit/copyrighted name issue). I just didn't want Dilana.

-I'm REALLY happy that Ryan Star got the encore performance. He was my favorite. He is amazing.

-I'm pretty sure that John Mayer is the perfect man. I have quite a ridiculous list of "dream guys that I'll never meet but love to lust over" going on right now, but I'm pretty sure John Mayer is at the top. "John Mayer Has A TV Show" is the most underrated piece of television in the last 3-5yrs. I'm also adding Justin Timberlake to perfect man status. Don't hate me, but I saw n*sync two summers in a row, and never liked the guy until I saw his awesomeness in person. After just seeing him perform "SexyBack" on MTV's Video Music Awards, I was reminded of how great he really is.

Yup, my life has become not much other than watching reality TV. The stress has gotten to me. My 1+ hour long walks on the beach are no longer. Life has been crumbling a bit, but I'm building back up.

Yay me.

I don't have a tip. Sorry.
xoxo
Sophie

All You Do To Me Is Talk Talk

Hey kids!

So now that I'm all moved and more or less settled in to my new digs in the KBP (Kennebunkport for those who are not down with the KBP), I'm on the job hunt and also trying to get to know my roommates.

I didn't know them before I moved in other than a couple of brief meetings here and there. There is myself (23), "Samantha" (20) and "Chandler" (18) and so far it's been okay. The fact that I can fall asleep listening to the waves crashing and wake up and have the ocean in my window view is clearly awesome, so I am not going to complain much about being the old maid (or anything else for that matter).

But Sophie, you're thinking, isn't this supposed to be about dating? Well, I'm sure you've noticed that this has become more of a 'life lesson' blog on the side. I will tie it all in for you now, trust me.

So, my roommate "Samantha" has a boyfriend. Good for her. Here's the problem:

We moved in Tuesday and he was here all day. He seems like a nice enough guy (very geeky and such, but nice), but I can clearly see that either he or the relationship is going to be annoying. I can't figure out who is the crazy one yet, or if it's both of them (could very well be), but yesterday was a perfect example of the insanity.

So he was here all day Tuesday, and yesterday (Wed.) "Samantha" wakes up and goes to class. When she got home, she started complaining about how she was calling 'the boy' and he wasn't answering. There was also the issue that he was going to be mad at her because she was supposed to be talking online together at 12:30 or something. Is this what relationships are coming to? You make dates to talk to each other online?! Nuts!

I was fine with this. I got to chill out downstairs with my Kraft Mac and Cheese (cause I had the blues).

To continue in the problem that I confronted her about already, last night (yet again), her cell phone starts ringing at 11pm. I was awake, but "Chandler" was trying to sleep. Tuesday night I believe she said it was her mom (though it rang a few times--hello vibrate/silent/off!!), but tonight was clearly 'the boy'. She started talking loud enough for everyone to hear her. By this time I was ready to go to bed, and she just kept talking and talking and talking. Apparently her night of babysitting was that interesting. Who knew? Also, just to really push it over the edge, about 15mins after she finally hung up, the *ding dong* noise alerted us all that she had sent a text message.

What gives with this stuff? They've been dating for a while, so it's not as if this is a new relationship and they are still in that phase. Is it their age? I just can't figure out what the deal is with talking to someone that much about day-to-day occurances. I mean, if aliens were flying around outside and after you called to tell them about it a big truck drove through your house and so on, I can see multiple lengthy phone calls. I'll even take that boredom is a factor, but there's a limit.

Hopefully this will die down. Maybe they'll break up? Who knows... I just want some peace and quiet when I'm trying to sleep.

So a tip:

Talking online is not a date. In fact, due to the lack of emotion that is clearly sent through conversations in such a medium, it could get you in trouble. Use it sparingly.

xoxo
sophie

1 800 Sophie and Miranda

So its official. I think we need a 24 hour hotline. haha. So I had a really bizzare day today and needed some serious advice in a pinch. So what did I do? Called Sophie of course. Luckily, I got her.

So let me explain. I dated this boy "Chris" back in March. We casually dated for maybe 2 or 3 months. He was in finishing up in law school, I was finishing up in college and we were both working full time once school was out. We both just sort of mutally stopped agreeing to see each other. We blew each other off the last time we were supposed to go out, and then we eventually had a really awkward conversation over AIM about how we were just at different places in our life and how we wished each other the best. Fine. Oh. And he made sure to add that it was ok if I called him drunk and wanted to hook up. Yeah. I didnt know about that one either.

So we really hadnt spoken since. This was probably mid June. Then out of the blue I got an IM from him today. It started out casually but I knew something was up. I have no patience for these things. I knew something was up. Well, eventually he laid it out:

Chris's AIM Name: so I was thinking recently that maybe we didn't hanging out a good shot, and was wondering if maybe you'd wanna get dinner some time soon and see if we get to know each other a little better, and if you don't think that's a good idea don't sweat it, I know this is totally random , I just feel like I was super busy with work and so forth

Hence I called Sophie cuz I didnt know what to say. I ultimately ended up telling him that I was sort of seeing someone. This was the response:

Chris's AIM Name: ok cool, good for you! didn't mean to make things too awkward, just figured we had a nice time, wasn't any big problem, might as well give it a shot if we're both single, but no worries

This leads me to today's tip: Know when to cut your losses. When we stopped dating we were both over and done with it. It was not because it was too busy for work. It was because we were not compatible. Going out to dinner again will not change this. He could have saved face a lot by avoiding this conversation all together.

Hope everyone had a great labor day.

XOXO.

-Miranda

Moving On Up..

Hello everyone!

I'm glad you all got to catch up with Miranda the other day. I apologize for my disappearing act, but I am moving on Tuesday and I'm pretty sure we all know how crazy that can be.

I'm heading down to the Boston area for the weekend and am looking forward to the relaxation time. Like M said though, hopefully we will take the city by storm at some point, it's been far too long.

I especially feel sorry that I've been away from the computer due to the fact that we had a reader that sent us some email and unfortunately I never got around to posting it for him to get YOUR feedback.

He writes:

About a week ago I met this girl at a bar. I think we clicked very quickly. We exchanged numbers and I called her the next day (I don't ilke to follow that whole "don't call right away" rule if the vibe is right). So we made plans to hang out on Sunday night after she got out of work. We had a great time joking around, making fun of each other, and eating food.

Here's the request for advice part.

I like this girl quite a bunch (with the personalities clicking so well). When that happens, I think about a girl constantly. Not in the stalker-ish way. I just do. I want to talk to them. My "fear" in these situations is two-fold. On one hand I don't want to seem like a stalker and overbearing. On the other hand, I don't want to remain distant and come off as uninterested. What I'd like to know is how you suggest going about keeping my foot in door without overstepping the boundaries. I know each girl is different as far as what she considers to be bothersome, so any ideas as to how I could determine the limits would be great too.

We discussed this and wrote back personally to our reader, telling him to really think about her on a personal level, to go out a few more times and then judge from there how to go about it. Every girl really is different and there is no right or wrong answer, but we would love to hear what you guys have to add to this.

And just to keep things simple...

Tip #21: Don't forget your friends. Even when you're dating someone, take the time to spend with them (even if you're not, you should do this). I had such a lovely time with some of my friends recently and I hope those times never change. Also, if the person you're dating breaks your heart, they will still be there for you to lighten the blow. If the person you're dating ends up being "the one", you've got your maid of honor/best man all ready to go!

Hey there folks. Sorry for the lack of posting from me, but I've been a bit crazy lately. Work has been hectic and I am moving at the end of the week. Hence, I havent had a lot of free time to spend in front of the c0mputer.

So what else have I been up to lately you might ask. Well, actually, quite a lot. I have been going on dates with just one man lately, we'll call him "Bill" and have been enjoying myself quite a lot. Bill and I met back on Memorial Day weekend and went on almost weekly dates all summer. I always had a good time, but Bill was very shy. In fact, I was starting to think that he wasnt interested me. Then when he finally kissed me good night, it was absoultely amazing.

So Bill and I have been dating more regularly lately. He invited me to a party last weekend and I got to meet a bunch of his friends. Although, it was definately a bit unnerving since I didnt know anyone else there. But I sucked up the nerves, put my best foot forward, and it was a smashing success. This past Saturday we went out to dinner and a movie and had a really nice time. We're supposed to get together tomorrow too. Its nice to be able to take things slowly and enjoy the stops along the way.

Anyway, time for me to grab some dinner. Hopefully my posts will be more frequent. Sophie and I might get together this weekend, so if we do, you can be sure we'll have fun pictures to share.

XOXO.

-Miranda

What Would We Do Without You?

So, we have another post sent in by a reader. This is basically a tip and a story all in one.

He writes:

"When I ask a girl what she is up to later that night, she should respond "nothing". This is usually my casual way of asking if she wants to hang out. Even if she says folding clothes or something boring, I will not ask her if she wants to hang out. This is the case because I am of the opinion that a girl should be aware of the possibility that she is being asked to hang out and should give no possible reason why she couldn't. Folding clothes is an out. The only correct answer is "nothing" or something that makes it clear that there are no plans and boredom is involved and she is waiting for me to save her from it."

We agree with you, but sometimes we're oblivious. On behalf of girls everywhere, we apologize. Hopefully you can find a girl out there that will see this and that way when you ask her, she'll know that she has nothing going on.

His tip?

"If you want to be asked out, but aren't going to do it yourself, it is your responsibility to make it easy and to remove even the slightest of impediments. The clothes can fold themselves. Well, not literally. The clothes need to be folded, I think. Easily changed plans shouldn't be mentioned at all. They should be taken care of outside of the asker's knowledge. I can't tell you how many girls I never ended up hanging out with that liked me. (Easily 3, maybe 4. I made it sound like a lot, didn't I?)"

As an added tip, if you ARE interested in a guy and have something scheduled that cannot be changed, make sure to give a back up. You know, "I'm busy then, but I'm free ____". It seems easy, but just think, if you take this advice, you could end up with a nice guy (like the one who sent in the material for today's entry).

xoxo
Sophie

Because You Love Us

I've set up an AIM screen name for Miranda and I to use, so be one of our buddies!

You can now IM us @ TakeItFromUs

(Original, no?)

So if you have any urgent questions or comments, or if you're just bored and want to talk, you can now reach us there.

Hope to hear from you guys soon!
xoxo
Sophie

On The Radio..

So, because I can and I've been couped up all weekend with nothing better to do (knee=throbbing), I'm just going to tell you people what to do with your Sunday night. It's what all the cool kids will be doing. Don't you want to be a cool kid? That's what I thought.

Our super awesome friends Harris (who think Ruben Studdard of American Idol was part of Nightmare Before Christmas--I'll can't let that one slide, guys) will be interviewed tonight on WAAF (107.3 in the Boston area) at 10pm on the Bay State Rock program they have there. Sounds pretty cool, right?

But wait...THERE'S MORE!!

If you stay tuned in until 11:30pm, Okay Thursday (who, if I could combine into a dude, I would marry) will be performing an acoustic set for your little ears to get all the sugary goodness that you'll need to fall asleep and wake up ready to go on Monday.

How can you turn something like that down?! Seriously, if you're not religious and don't go to church, but you feel guilty about it (I was raised Catholic. We're all about guilt.), consider this a gospel from the church of awesome local music.

What's that? You don't get WAAF on your AM/FM walkman out there in the boondocks? Well people aren't going to put you down just because that's the side of town you were born in! The fine people on the internet have you covered: You can listen online here

So don't give me that crap about not having anything to do on Sundays.

Tip#19: Listen to WAAF tonight. Done and done.

xoxo
Sophie

You Not So Cute, Even When You're Slurring Your Speech

Hello everyone.

It's early for a Saturday morning. I did something to my knee yesterday and was in bed with ice/heat/elevation and all that jazz all night. This sounds like an awful way to spend a Friday night, but it wasn't so bad.

I ended up staying up with a friend discussing the ridiculousness that was the 2nd game of the Sox/Yanks double header (aka the game that never was going to end). I don't even want to talk about it now, but there has never been a time when I wanted them to keep Tavarez in. Seriously, HANSEN?! I hate Hansen. Why do I hate Craig Hansen, you ask? Well here's a little story for ya.

I do some work with a charity in Boston and a few times a year, I get to rub elbows with some Red Sox players. Everytime this happens, I get giddy. I look forward to who I'm going to meet this time around, and in January, the "next big thing" Craig Hansen was there. He had done nothing to impress me in his few appearances during the end of the 2005 season, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he could be a good guy and just a crappy pitcher.

There is generally a good amount of booze floating around these events and Hansen was certainly taking advantage. I was talking to another pitcher for our team and he came stumbling over to include himself in conversation. Soon after, it was just me and Hansen.

First off, he was dopey and stupid. Then he started asking me who I was here with and trying to use some cheesy pick up lines on me. The kicker was after I was obviously blowing him off by flat out ignoring him and turning my back, he started holding on to my waist and touching my arms and just pawing all over me. It was gross. I wanted nothing more than to go home and take a shower.

Everytime I see his face/hear his name, especially when he's warming up in the bullpen, I cringe. He's just a kid, sure, but this event leads me to...

Tip #18: We all get drunk sometimes. That's fine. Just be smart enough to know when and where it's appropriate to get sloppy drunk and when "fun buzzy drunk" is sufficient for the night. At a party or something like that, drinking until you pass out is usually fine, but think twice about it when you're out in public. If you're getting to the point where you're incoherent and stumbling around, maybe it's time to cut yourself off and go home. As an added tip, make sure if you're going out and plan on drinking a lot, bring a friend or two to help judge when it's time to do this. (This may seem like something we all learned a long time ago, but I've seen it more and more recently when out.)

And just for clarification: I'm not saying that you shouldn't drink or get drunk when out in public, I'm just saying know your limits. Don't get so drunk that you get to the point where you act like a total bastard.

Have a good weekend everyone!
xoxo
Sophie

That's What Friends Are For

So, we went almost a week with nothing for you. It's been nice out and both of us have been CRAZY busy. We apologize, but sometimes we feel a little down and like no one cares when posts and posts go up with questions for you and no one responds. There is a link to post a comment for a reason, people!

Due to this awesome weather, let's make this short.

I received a phone call from Miranda last night. She was going out with this guy and was just getting a bad vibe about the whole thing. They have been out a few times, but for whatever reason, tonight was just off to her. She almost was going to bail, and then had the brilliant idea that all people have from time to time. She decided to have me on call. We agreed that if she pulled up my number and hit send and then quickly hung up (very easy to do without being noticed), I would call back immediately with an excuse for her to leave and bail her out. (For the record, everything ended up being fine for Miss Miranda. She called to tell me I was off the clock and supposedly had a nice time)

Tip #17 is why we have friends, I tell you:

*If going out with someone, have a friend on call. It's a good escape plan and if you have a signal (like one ring or something), your friend can call you back and you can get out of a date that maybe should've ended as soon as it began.

xoxo
Sophie

Hey all-

Sorry for my abscence this weekend, but I had a family reunion to attend to. Oh the stories I could tell...but I will spare you. ;)

So I was talking to Sophie today and asking for her advice, and we decided that we'd pose this to you all of you.

So I met this guy a few weeks ago, while skydiving. We've emailed back and forth a few times, but he lives up in NH (I live in Boston) We had talked about getting together but this was the email I got (an excerpt from it..)

"I start my vacation on wed the 16th. I rented a beach house in maine with some friends for the 16th through the 20th. You should totally come chill at the beach house if you get any of those days off. There's an extra bed so you could crash if you want. "

Now.. consequently.. I cannot go cuz I am working and have plans...but how would all of you react? Would you go? I'm curious to hear your thoughts...

XOXOXO.

-Miranda

Oh.. and so as not to completely miss the point of this blog.. heres the tip for today:

When you kiss a girl..take the time to hold her face in your hands (Does that make sense?)Touching a girls face (more namely.. cheek etc..) is completely cute and totally underrated.

This One's On You

So we've received a lot of reader mail and today it's being put to good use. Please feel free to give you advice and opinions on the following entry and if you have anything to add, don't hesitate to email us or send us a myspace message. (takeitfromus@gmail.com or www.myspace.com/takeitfromus)

Okay, so let's get to it. I think instead of full on storytelling (because I think that would talk a year or so to read), I think I'm going to just throw these out as questions so that people will actually read it and the readers who submitted their stories can get feedback. Right? Right.

1.) This was sent in as more of a story, but a lot of people deal with this, so I'm giving a bit of story, and asking a question. Basically, a female reader was being somewhat "set up" with this guy that was in a course of hers and she wasn't really feeling him. After countless attempts to politely let him down and push him away, he just wasn't getting it. He drunkenly tried to kiss her a few times and even tried sober. She pushed him away every time. Finally, when caught off guard, he went in for the kill and didn't fail. Forcefully pushing him away, our reader then went into her apartment, where he continued to call for her outside. When she asked him what was going on, he said he didn't think it would be a good idea for him to come up. She never invited him, she pushed him away in mild disgust. After she cut off contact and ignored text messages, she sent her a message asking why she had been so unfriendly. That was pretty much it. So my question is, what are we supposed to do to truly get you to go away? When is it not obvious that someone is not interested? What are the tell tale signs and how do you get them across clearly?

2.) When on vacation, one of our female readers met a guy. He doesn't actually live all that far from where she lives and he is a friend of a friend. She was leaving in the morning and he convinced her to stay up talking all night. He then offered to carry her luggage to the airport, and did so in the morning. Never did he try to pull any sleezy moves or anything, but after discussing the evening with friends, they informed her that he's a bit of a player. I informed her to keep a guard up and take your friends' warning, but to form your own opinion on him. The question though, how much consideration should you give to outsiders in situations like this? Is it worth it to let someone go by who you shared some sort of connection with because of others? There is always the possibility of getting hurt, and in a way, they're giving you the heads up that you may just be getting yourself into a situation where this is more obvious of happening.

3.) Moving onto one of our male readers, he asked what girls see in guys with uniforms (specifically he asked about sailors, but i'm generalizing it). I don't know what it is. For me, it turns me off entirely. The only thing I could come up with was that maybe the fact that the possibility of a short term fling without any sort of commitment could be appealing to some. Anyone know what this is all about?

And a tip from a male reader, that could really work both ways

Tip #15: When entering a bar/club, the reader suggested to discuss with your friends which people you are immediately physically attracted to. Have no more than five people a piece to make it fair. If one of your friend's picks comes up to you, be friendly and be sure to introduce your friend and at least attempt to get that spark between them. Sometimes it just isn't there, and it may be there for you (with your friend's pick), so in those situations, just tell you friend what's going on. They should be okay with it. If not, buy them a shot or something and help them forget all about the fact that it was their pick to begin with.

Enjoy this beautiful weekend.

xoxo
Sophie

A Little Greener..

Hey there fine folks.

I'm utterly exhausted so I am going to make this a quick post. Sophie has been talking about a lot of cool bands lately so I thought I would throw one out for you. They are called Tally Hall. 5 guys who went to U Michigan. Http://www.tallyhall.com. They played at the Paradise Lounge tonight, and will eventually be back in Boston, although I'm not entirely sure when. They made their national TV debut last week on Craig Ferguson. In their words, they are a "wonky rock band."

Let me know what you think.

XOXO.

-Miranda

"Well, You Can Say What You Want..."

Well hello world.
(Regarding the title of this entry: I love the band Texas. Why weren't they super huge?)

I need to explain a bit about my involvement with Flavor of Love 2. I applied, was emailed by the producers, given a list of questions to answer, was approached with a second list of questions that were to be answered on video tape and at that point was talked out of it. After watching the season premiere Sunday night on VH1, though some would say it was a good decision to back down, I thought about how it could've been ME pooping on the floor. I can only imagine...

Also, before getting to today's babbling, I would just like to state again how much we appreciate your feedback. Honestly, it is what forces us (well, me at least) to keep coming up with things to post. Yes, that means it's all because of you.

Today and tomorrow I ended up having off from work and today was spent largely cleaning up my room and packing for my impending move in a few weeks. As excited as I am about moving, I hate packing. I've had to move a lot in my life and it is by far the worst thing about the experience. Well, unpacking isn't so fun either, but it's dealable.

While deciding what things are worthy of being saved and what can be chucked in the trash, I found myself reading a lot of little notes I had written to myself. Why I do this, I don't know, but I find myself being brought back to a time and place and especially an emotion. I then began to ponder the following:

Why is it so difficult for people to express true feelings? I'm sure we are all hypocrites by ever thinking/asking this question, but think about how good it makes you feel when someone compliments/thanks/appreciates you. It's nice, isn't it? There is the whole fear of rejection and sometimes on the other side there is the fear of hurting someone else's feelings by rejecting, but in the end it's something special to really be able to tell someone what they are to you.

Think of the ease it would bring to the dating scene if people could freely say things like "hey, i really like you"/"yeah, me too!" or "you know, you're really just not for me"/"oh well, at least we tried!"? I'm not talking about immediately announcing that you're in love or harshly hurting someone with words, but just the simplicity of saying something and meaning it. People are too sensitive though, and it's only getting worse. It would be nice though if we could all handle it and just suck it up and deal.

Along the same lines, how difficult is it to say you're going to do something and just do it?

I bring you, Tip #14:

If you say you're going to call, just call! If you don't plan on calling, say so! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not going to sit here and tell people to be jerks about it. Basically, just follow through with what you say you're going to do. It's really not that difficult. If you're not going to be able to do something, just tell the person. Maybe you're busy, maybe you're not interested, maybe you forgot. If you can't complete the task at hand right away, follow up with us at some point. It's just common courtesy and not doing so makes you a bit of a coward.

xoxo
-Sophie

Hey all. Sorry I have been MIA this weekend. I was in Connecticut yesterday and had to work all day today. But here I am.

First, I have a question for all of you girls. When you refer to your friends who are girls, platonically, do you say.. "I'm hanging out with my friends?" or "I'm hanging out with my girlfriends?"

So I learn new things about our friend Sophie everyday. Today we were talking about the new season of Flavor of Love and this is what I found:

Sophie:. I was obsessed with last year's. i actually applied to this season, and the producers emailed me with instructions on the next round of applications and such, but i didn't go through with it. haha. this is the only reason i wanted on the show. was for a nickname. i ended up getting the nickname 'snaps' from my buddy andy

Flavor of Love would be so much better with Sophie on it. Hands down. Dont' you agree?

So I had a date tonight. Tonights date is with a boy I shall call "Chad." Chad and I have been on 3 or 4 dates so far and I always seem to have a good time. He's a writer and really shy, but cute and really sweet. So he picked me up tonight and we went down to Newbury St for dinner. We were walking and I ran into this girl I went to school with who I hadnt seen in a while. We we're friendly, but havent really hung out much. So I introduced them and she turns to him and goes.. "Are you on a date?" Haha. Talk about an awkward moment. Then shes like, "Where are you taking her?" So he tells her and shes like.. "Oh. That place is all right." I felt so bad for Chad! Poor guy. Friends can be so obnoxious sometimes! So I apologized of course and he was a good sport. The rest of dinner went off without a hitch. Really good conversation. We're going to go out again later this week I think. I can't find much wrong with this one so far. There are only 2 things that bother me, and I think I can get past them. #1) Hes a terrible driver. This one I am unsure of...especially cuz he always drives. But I'm trying to work on it. #2) He is SUPER shy. I'm a pretty straight forward kind of girl. The shy thing is very cute and intriguing, but also sort of trying to wear my patience a little. I'm trying really hard though. I guess we'll see how the next date goes.

Anyway... thats all from me for now.

XOXO.

-M

867-5386....No, 867-5309!

Hey Kids! It's the weekend and that means...well, nothing.

I'm going to take a break from promoting Okay Thursday today to switch gears and boost a bit of love for Harris ( www.myspace.com/harris or www.harriscore.com ). These guys put on a great show yesterday and quite frankly I/we love them. I think that's all I really have to say about that.

Moving on, I've been doing a lot of work on the Take It From Us MySpace page. I've been sending out messages and adding lots of people, so to you (if any of you actually end up reading this) welcome and thanks and please don't leave us.

I wish I had something to share. Miranda's been in CT this weekend, so HOPEFULLY she'll have something to report on this week. I'm obviously running out of steam (which means that you guys should really start sending us myspace messages or emails to takeitfromus@gmail.com with stories/questions/knock knock jokes to save yourself from having to read stuff like this all the time).

Oh, I actually do have a story AND a tip.

So a week or so ago, I was out and a guy asked for my number. I gave it to him, but both of us had been drinking so I just punched it in his phone to make life easier. After having him say twice to me "you know, I've tried to call you and it just rings and rings", and me brushing it off saying "oh just try again, my phone must be acting up", we came to the realization recently that I actually hit two wrong buttons when entering my number into his phone. Shucks kids, was I a bit red in the face. All is set straight now, so don't you worry.

So, Tip #13:
If you actually want to give someone your actual number, make sure you do it right. Obviously if you're just giving out any old number so you can get someone off your back, by all means, do so. If you want someone to actually call you, double check or something because you may not get a second chance.

xoxo
Sophie

Connect Four!

So, we suck at posting. We've been busy. Forgive us, please.

I'm assuming you have all bought your copy of Okay Thursday's Fun in Flats. I will keep bothering you until you do. www.okaythursday.com

Moving on, I had the pleasure of meeting up with a few friends who I had not seen in over a year yesterday. It was lovely. I had a nice little BBQ in Nashua, NH and then continued down to Bill's Bar in Boston. Sometimes connecting with friends can remind you of little pieces of who you are and make you remember things that you want to change about yourself. All in all, it was a lovely day and I hope that everyone has enjoyed the not so hot weather and had the chance to reconnect with people (old and new).

The point of this blog: Don't forget your friends. No matter what goes on, don't forget the people that are there for you. They're around for a reason and you should give them a bit of credit. No one's easy to put up with, so never forget to take the time to be with them (whether you're in a relationship or not).

Moving on,
Tip #12 comes from an experience my friend and I had last night at Bill's Bar:

When you see two girls sitting by themselves at a bar, don't stare and point. It doesn't make us notice you. It creeps us out. Just because we're alone doesn't mean we want to talk to you.

PS: Please email us with stories/questions/all that jazz. takeitfromus@gmail.com

xoxo
Sophie

Roll On? Seriously, go to the Abbey Lounge in Somerville, MA any Tuesday in the month of August and pick it up. Stay to see them live as well. If you're not near that location, go to www.okaythursday.com for all the details on how to order/song clips.
(or www.myspace.com/okaythursday )

Also, super kudos to the boys in the band Harris, who headlined the first OKTh night at the Abbey. They have a killer new video for their song "Carousel" and I'm pretty sure everyone should check it out and listen/watch. You'll love it. www.harriscore.com or www.myspace.com/harris

Wow. Shameless plugging. That's a bit low, huh?

I am so smitten with OKTh (and Harris) that I actually drove 2hrs in the nasty heat to see this show, only to drive 2hrs back home after it was over. That's love and dedication right there. There had been a bit of crap going on today and the jangle pop/awesome indie combo made it all go away. I will say though, that I am pretty terrified of lightning and there was a lot of it from the heat on the ride home. I think I almost cried at one point. I guess it's a good thing it was 1:30am and no one else was really on the road. Also, the temp change as I entered Maine was insane. It clearly dropped a good chunk of degrees. This was lovely.

I have to say, tomorrow's going to be a tough day. I do not deal with heat well and will more than likely grow horns or something evil. I'm hoping Miranda will have a fun post about movie choices for dates simply so that I don't have to do anything but lounge in a pool or in an air conditioned room doing diddly squat after work. If not, we'll whip something special up for Thursday.

We also have a slight "shout out/edit" to give. Miranda and I decided on the phone today that Tip #1 does not apply to people with the screen name "diggity" or "Tony". We're just throwing it out there, and quite frankly are sick of hearing "can't touch the midsection!". If it's hot and we don't want you to, you are people we will inform of this fact. Don't you worry.

Now for Tip #11: Wow. I actually just fell asleep with my laptop on my, um, lap. Okay, this one may seem a little far fetched, but I'm just going to put this one out there and you can take it if you want (basically because this just happened). After 7mos of not speaking to someone, for whatever reasons or none at all, don't follow up "so what have you been up to?" with "so how about you just take a full on boob picture and send it over?" It's not going to work. As I told this person, "If I've been denying you these photos for over a year, what makes you think it's going to happen now?" Magic powers would help, but what a waste of magic powers.

Have a good night, porkchops. On a serious note, stay cool and drink plenty of water.

xoxo
Sophie

Hip or Only For Losers?

Hey all-

So with it being Monday, we're not feeling all that creative. Nope.. its Miranda

Hey there everyone. It was quite enjoyable meeting some of you on Friday night. I hope you have enjoyed Sophies fun posts the past few days as I have been MIA. Why have I been MIA might you ask? Well I decided to go camping up in Maine on Saturday. Again, Why you might ask? Well, there was a good reason. I had to work all day on Saturday and ended up driving to New Hampshire when I got out of work to meet up with one of my sorority sisters, Tara. She was my "big sister" in the sorority when I was in school. So I met up with her and 5 other people and we drove to Lebanon, Maine. (Its actually just across the NH border.. I had no idea before this weekend either....) By the time we got up there and got situated, it was around 9:30, dark, and we still had to pitch our tent. We had 2 tents between the 7 of us, but one of them had 2 rooms so we were all good. We managed to leave the headlights of the car on so that we could pitch the tents, but ended up running the battery dead in the process. Oops. So we had everything set and then the 7 of us, and our 2 dogs (a pug and a pekinese) headed off to the bonfire where we stayed and drank, ate and chatted til almost 3 AM. For those of you who know me, this was a HUGE deal. Getting me to camping, that is. I am not exactly in touch with nature and am more than a girly girl when it comes to bugs and creepy crawlies. However, Im also a good sport and figured I'd give it a shot. It wasnt that bad actually. I had a blast, minus the bugs. I finally got to use my sleeping bag and everything. I think you might even be able to twist my arm to do it again. Maybe.

So we got up around 8AM this morning and headed over to the main area. We were camping on the ground of a Skydiving agency. 5 of us planned on jumping today, and with the exception of 1 other guy and myself, everyone else had been before. So we had our "class" at 9AM this morning, and didnt end up even jumping until around 1 or so. Reading all the waivers and basically signing your life away is definatley one of the scariest parts. But we got all suited up and they took us out to the runway and up we went. I went with 2 of the girls, and the other 2 friends went in the group right after us. So I did a backflip out of a plane at 13,500 feet. Pretty cool.. no? :) Absolutely hands down one of the neatest experiences of my life. I even bought the DVD to prove it. Although, arguably, a DVD of us at the campsite would probably be just as valuable..haha.

So I know that has nothing to do with dating or any of that stuff, but hey, its our blog, and we can post what we want. And thats what I felt like posting today. So deal with it :)

Xoxoxo.

-Miranda

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://takeitfromus.blogspot.com/2006/07/its-bird-its-plane-nope-its-miranda.html' title='Its a bird.. its a plane... We both agreed that something was off that night and that something just felt weird about it all. Neither of us were in the best of moods, but decided it was a good idea to say hello to friends and start drinking the hard liquor. This was probably the best idea ever.

Basically, the two of us eventually ended up in what level of drunkeness Miranda labeled "Make Out Drunk". Once on the dance floor (yes, we were workin' it out there with the boys and girls), we started to scope out our possible victims. Immediately ruling out a few people, we both were on the verge of giving up when Miranda did. She had to return to the group of people she had left earlier in the night, and that is what she did.

I spent the rest of the evening talking it up and dancing like a fool. In simple terms, I had a pretty good night.

Once at the after party, I switched roles and turned into "Sophie the Mom" and took care of drunken friends. Someone has to do it, and it was probably the more respectable moments of the night.

We did really enjoy the feedback we've been getting from you guys. A few people told us how they read this little blog on Friday night, and it really made us feel like, as ridiculous as this thing is, that it's worth the time and effort. Of course, it's all because of you!

I also found a new place to live (already dubbed the 90210 Beach House) and will be moving in a month, so my adventures will probably be few and far between (not that they aren't already). I'm sure Miranda will have something new to tell you about soon, and the two of us will always have our nights out from time to time. Basically, don't forget to email us with any fun stories or questions you have. We can censor them to protect you and others involved. Promise.
takeitfromus@gmail.com

And with this experience, Miranda and I came out with Tip #10:

Tip #1 does NOT apply while on the dance floor, unless we pull away. When dancing, we all get sweaty, that is the atmosphere. Touch us in the midsection. Really. It's sexy and okay in our books. We're actually a little insulted when you dance with your hands behind your back.

xoxo
Sophie

TGI...It's Too Hot To Be A Friday

Sorry about the missing entry there yesterday. I was not at a computer and poor Miranda is the busiest bee ever (as stated in Wednesday's post).

First off, I'd like to wish our dear friend Mike a happy birthday. Mike's birthday was yesterday, so technically we suck as friends, but we are celebrating with him tonight so I felt this was just as relevant today.

Second, it's going to be hot this weekend, and our ever popular "Tip #1" may come in handy for those of you heading out (or staying in) with a special someone the next few days. Scroll down and check it out to remind yourself of its importance.

Third, I guess this post is quite the sham. I could tell a recent "woe is me" tale, but I don't really feel that this is what we are about. It's days like today that some of your stories would help. I'm sure after the weekend we will have something interesting to tell you, but I've sadly got nuthin'.

Scratch that. I DO have a tip for you (that has nothing to do with anything written in this blog).

Tip #9:
Being a gentleman never really goes out of style, but don't layer it on too thick. It's nice and we appreciate it (trust us, we do), but too much a good thing can go bad.....quickly.

xoxo
Sophie

Hey everyone. Its Wednesday. Hooray for hump day.

So I had a date tonight with a boy we will call "Tom." This was date number 2 for us. I had a decent time on date #1, but was not as lucky with this one. We had agreed to meet for dinner. "Tom" lives in Rhode Island but works in Neecdham. He had requested we go to dinner at 5 (who eats that early other than old folks wanting the early bird special?) but I told him I had an appointment at 5 and could call him when I was done. (In my defense, I did have an important appointment to get my eyebrows waxed..)So I called him around 530 and told him I could be there in about 15 minutes. When I got there, he kept me waiting for probably about 10 minutes, but I overlooked that since I had delayed it in the first place. We went to a Japanese restaurant where they cook your food on the table in front of you. Great idea for a date. Really fun environment. Conversation was all right, nothing overly exciting, but nothing to cry about. Hint #1 that this was going downhill- they gave us those wetnaps to wash our hands at the beginning and he just looked at it like he was all confused. (In his defense, it was rolled up, not in the original packaging..) Ok. So i can get over that. So our conversation was all right and he mentioned that he could have left work at 230 today and headed home. I assured him that he could have called me and we could have picked another night so he didnt have to hang around. When I said "We could have found another night to hang out." His response: "I think that a lie. You are so busy I dont think you could have." Ouch. I might be busy, but if I enjoy your company I will find time to hang out with you. But then he continued with "Besides. We made these plans a week ago. I really wanted to hang out." Mixed messages much? Then when he paid the bill (yes, he picked it up without incident) he gave it to the waitress and said "Can I just get $10 back?" So she returned it with his change. Then he spent a good 5 minutes freaking out that the waitress would think he was a schmuck because he left the check sleeve empty. He turned to me and said, "I hope she realizes that the tip was included in that." I would like to think that waitress is smart enough to figure out if he asked for $10 back, whatever amount above what he left was the tip. Call it a hunch. Also, he kept talking about money throughout the date. And how things were uber expensive (not the food, but things we had been talking about) I am not one to discriminate on income. Period. I have lots of respect for what people do and those who have and those who dont. But it was said in such a way that made me uncomfortable. Not a good sign on a 2nd date. Ok.. so all in all.. not a date from hell, but nothing to excite me. As much as a complain about these little things, I could in theory overlook them. Afterall, no one is perfect. But...call me crazy...if I'm spending time with someone, especially on a date, I want excitement. We dont have to DO anything exciting. But I want to be excited in someway... conversation etc.

Thus we have Tip #8:
Keep our interest. What sets you apart from everyone else we have been out with? You dont have to be THE most interesting person we've ever been out with, but convince us that our time was well spent.

Thats all for today.

Xoxoxo.
-Miranda

So I was just watching the 11:00 News and they talked about a nationwide study that was conducted regarding "The Dating Scene." Boston ranked #2 in the nation, just behind Denver. They talked about the worst cities being Cleveland and Washington. Apparantly the ratio of men to women in DC is 12:1! Who would have thought...

I was at work today and we were chatting about the blog. One of the women who is happily married was saying how her husband went to put his clammy hand on her the other night and how she was irritated at it. Then she cited Tip #1 to try and help prove that it wasn't just her who doesn't find that enjoyable. Thus we come to...

Tip #7: Take our tips to heart. It could save a relationship. So, if you have any tips, questions or all around funny stories that would make sense for us to share with the class, feel free to email them to us. Really, it could be fun. (Plus, we get busy/lazy sometimes and can't please everyone)

So think hard and we'll do our best to pick something out of our inbox once a week

Oh yeah, you can email us here: takeitfromus@gmail.com

Let's not forget tip #5: When a girl tells you that it's over, well.....it's over (even if it never really had the chance to begin). Don't call/email her and pull the ol' guilt trip. It's not nice and it makes us feel bad. I guess that means it works, but it doesn't mean we're going to take you back. Just don't do it okay. Both of us were working and blah blah blah.
We'll preface it with a story. One of us had been "seeing" this guy for a few months. Then he fell off the face of the earth. It had been over 2 months since we had spoken. He decided an appropriate time to call would be Friday night at 12:30 when we were out at the bars. He was obviously drunk. Booty calls can be nice once in a while, but this was a little ridic.

Tip #4:
If you havent spoken to a girl in a while, attempt to call her before 9PM, or at least when you are sober.

xoxoxo.

Sophie and Miranda

Feel Free To Drink The Water

Tonight we decided to take our act on the road. By the road, we mean the bars that encompass the great city of Boston, MA.

Our first stop was The Greatest Bar. It's not actually the greatest bar, but apparently someone named it as such and all in all it wasn't exactly a bad time. Actually, this was the only place that didn't include us ditching guys that were hitting on us and we got to watch the Red Sox on this massively huge screen. Is there really any arguement to THAT being an alright time?

From there, we started walking and then decided a cab was better. In the end, it took us to The Liquor Store. No, not an actual liquor store, it's just called that. We had VIP status and were allowed to cut to the front of the line, only, there was no line by the time we arrived. Way to steal our spotlight. We got our groove on there. There were a lot of sketchy guys grinding up on us, but they did give you your 40s in a brown paper bag AND there was a mechanical bull (that the line was too long for us to want to stay to try out), so we took one for the team and played it out like champs. We're pretty sure we were there for almost an hour. That has to say something, right?

We then decided it was time to meet up with a friend of Miranda's at Henessey's. Of course, we waited in line (sans VIP status) and by the time we paid our cover and got inside.....the text of "We're outside" was received. We decided to stick it out regardless. It wasn't the worst choice at first, but things took a turn that was like that tsunami that hit last year.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a guy came waltzing over and held his beer bottle out to Miranda. She gave him quite the puzzled look which forced him to just walk away (like Kelly Clarkson told him to do). Game over, right? No, not even close. He came back.......with a friend!!! Trust us, it's not nearly as great as it sounds. With "Creep #1" gently caressing Miranda's back and "Creep #2" (see, those numbers come in handy) trying to go in for the kill on me (Sophie), all hope was almost lost. Then, through divine intervention, I (Sophie) made a break for it. Now, I would never leave Miranda to the wolves like that. I had a plan. A ridiculously adorable young man (who we later knew as "Jon") was at the bar, and I quickly whispered an S.O.S into his ear. This Jon character took a little while getting drinks for what seemed like everyone, but eventually he and his buddy came over and saved us from the fiery death that was nearing our fate.

Released from the shackles of creepiness, Miranda politely thanked her knight and I sparked a conversation in gratitude. Not long after, we were back to fend for ourselves. During this time, we watched the Sox beat the Mariners 9-4, listened to a pretty decent cover band, took phone calls from other possibly interested suitors and generally took in the scenes around us. And then, the lights came on......

"Jon"(on the right) and his buddy "Chris"(on the left), who had been chatting it up together at the bar after leaving us on our own, came back for a sequel appearance in our night. We talked with them for about 15mins, until two things happened. One: Last Call. Two: Miranda had had enough of the drunken babblings from "Chris". In an awkward moment, we said our goodbyes. By awkward, we mean they tried to give us hugs and both failed to find the balls to ask for our numbers (In particular, "Jon").

We left and walked back to the car. All in all, a good night on the town. Sure, there were some things that would've been better left on the cutting room floor, but what can you do?

Dating Tip #3: If you are meeting a girl somewhere and friends of yours are around, acknowledge the fact that she's there. It's not difficult to politely excuse yourself from hanging out with your friends (who you probably see all the time anyway) and make the girl feel less awkward for a moment. When you fail to pay any attention to her initially and then continue to pursue her, it makes it a little strange and we quite frankly don't know how to take it.

xoxo
Sophie and Miranda

So we are enjoying all your fun comments. We'd also like to state for the record that we are in no way qualified to be giving any dating advice. In fact, we are probably the last people who should be giving dating advice, but thats what makes this that much more fun.

And with that said... on to the tip of the day:

Tip #2:If you are dating mulitple guys/girls by the same name it can be useful to number them. (I.E. Bill #1, Bill #2, Bill #3. ) It is much easier to keep things straight and convey stories to your friends that way. Note: If you are no longer seeing one, shifting the order is not recommended. And if numbers arent your thing, you can try distinctive features as well. (I.E. Big Nose Bill, Beer Gut Bill etc..)

Until Tomorrow.

XOXO
Sophie and Miranda

We're here for you...

So we are really just 2 girls who are tired of the dating scene and all the games that come with it. We are open to meeting people and consider ourselves equal opportunity daters. However, even though there are so many ways to meet people now, it seems to be even harder then before. So we had the brilliant idea that we would post about some of our dates and hope that people can learn from them. For the record Sophie would like it noted that she is mildly afraid of the dating scene like many of you out there, and that should make this even that much more entertaining.

Dating tip #1: Guys.. when the tempurature is over 80 degrees... girls do not like be touched around their midsection. We have enough of our own sweat. We do not need it combined with someone elses.

Have a great night.

- Miranda (The Mysterious One) and Sophie (The Shy One)
